NOTICE OF EVENT CANCELLATION
AR-TX REDI board members were notified today of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s need to postpone his visit to Texarkana to speak at the launch event of the new AR-TX Regional Economic Development Incorporated initiative originally set for May 31. The change in schedule is due to the Governor’s priority work on the prevention of school violence and issues related to the Santa Fe ISD tragedy.
Sonja Hubbard, AR-TX REDI president, said the event will be rescheduled once a new date is confirmed with both Abbott and Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.
“Governor Abbott’s team notified us today that they were very sorry for the change to his schedule but that he is needed on the 31st to work on urgent issues related to school violence,” said Hubbard. “We completely understand and agree that is where he needs to be. We will begin working with both Governors’ offices next week to come up with a date in the future where we can have them both here to celebrate the start of this regional effort. Governor Abbott and Governor Hutchinson are both committed to this endeavor.”
Hubbard said AR-TX REDI has already begun working to find the right executive director to lead the organization’s efforts.
“We will keep Santa Fe ISD in our thoughts and prayers and give our full support to Governor Abbott as he works with others to develop new policies and procedures to do all that we can to keep these types of situations from ever happening again,” said Hubbard.
